  • Rent a boat in London

Two beautiful canal boats to rent in London.

Owner Sam fell in love with 'Velvet Morning' as she was an older canal boat with so much character ... “she’s over 100 years old”. She drove to Bath to see her and knew she was the one. Sam then saw 'Barbara' who was only two years old, very smart and really needed little doing. Having fallen in love with the romantic idea of narrow boats Sam was hooked, and decided to buy both!

Rent a unique place to stay

Looking for somewhere unique to escape and get away from it all? Sam, a specialist in set design and prop styling set to restoring both boats. Barbara needed little work but was painted throughout and then modern bright coloured soft furnishings were installed.

Velvet Morning needed much more or a complete refurb, re plumbing, new electrics, adjusting the living room space. All great fun and the end result is a stunning cosy canal boat - very rewarding and a truly unique place to stay!

A calm oasis in the centre of London

Little Venice is the most beautiful part of the canal - a real calm oasis in the centre of London. A lot of Londoners don’t even know it’s there. It’s completely central, yet its picturesque and quiet and peaceful. Ironically we do get a lot of Londoners staying for a ‘quiet getaway’!

The barges are within walking distance of portobello, nottinghill. You can take the waterbus through Regent’s park, past the zoo and on to Camden to enjoy the great market. There are wonderful local restaurants and pubs - Clifton Nursery is a favourite. The oldest nursery in London which also had a fantastic cafe fri brunch lunch or an afternoon cream tea. "A favourite when I’m waiting for guests"!

There is at the bridge house pub with the canal theatre, the Summerhouse seafood restaurant  right on the canal and the waterway pub with a wonderful outside space on the canal . There’s also a puppet theatre and the London shell company which provides gourmet food and night cruise. So you don’t have to venture far from the mooring.

"I love meeting new people and hearing their stories. Most importantly I want people to experience the joy I have in experiencing the barge and the canal in London - It’s a real hidden gem!

It’s lovely explaining the quirks of staying on a boat and also supplying guests with some local info - people want to experience something different and outside of the norm. Insider, local info is always really well received".

Why rent a boat in London?

Sam's 5 favourite things to do in London:

    • I like to take the barges for a cruise when they’re not booked. The trip to Kings Cross is amazing, though regents park, pass Camden and then to Granary Square which has been fanatically redeveloped. Moor up for the evening and then drive back the next day - perfect.
    • A walk on Hampstead Heath
    • Nomad open air cinema in the summer
    • Sunday lunch at the Parlour Kensal Road
    • Portobello/Golborne Road for antiques and street food

"I enjoyed our 2 day stay at the boat very much. There boat is perfect equipped with all one needs. The location at little Venice is very romantic, well connected and quiet. And last not least Sam is a wonderful host. I like to recommend Barbara highly. Best Monika"
