Weekends away in The North

Jewels of the North: Manchester, York & Hull

This tour takes you to the vibrant city of Manchester for some sporting action with two of the country's most high profile football teams. If retail therapy is more your thing, you’ll discover an unrivalled selection of international brands combined with the best of British boutiques. The next stage of your journey takes you across to York, a flourishing city rich in ancient history where you’re never far from an awe inspiring moment.

Your trip ends in Hull, city of culture for 2017. With its vibrant festivals, historic buildings, a popular racecourse and the enthralling museum quarter there is something for everyone.

Start your tour with a stay on ‘The Captain’ a canal boat moored in the centre of the vibrant city of Manchester. A short walk from some of the city’s best shopping destinations, this boat can comfortably accommodate six people.

The boat’s owner Robin recommends that guests take part in tours of Manchester United’s Old Trafford and Manchester City’s Etihad Stadiums, to really get to grips with this city’s proud sporting heritage.

Stay on 'The Captain'

A short train journey through the stunning landscape of the Peak District, leads you into the city of York, and a stay onboard a luxury houseboat on the River Ouse. The ‘Motor Vessel Till’ is moored a stone’s throw from York Minster and other top tourist attractions such as the Jorvik Viking Museum.

The National Railway Museum is a great escape where young and old alike are able to climb over historic trains from Britain’s past. It will also soon host the space capsule used by Captain Tim Peake from his mission to the International Space Station.

Yes to York!

Finally it’s time to soak up some culture, with a train journey across to Hull, where a warm welcome awaits on board the fishing trawler ‘Inga Ness’.

The boat’s dog Rocky and owner Elizabeth can point you towards some of the city’s new exhibitions and museums, as well as the great tapas bars and restaurants dotted around this stunning marina.
