Stay on a boat in Brighton, United Kingdom

Unique purpose built houseboat comprising the shell of a Dodge fire engine, an upturned lifeboat, tractor tyre windows, the remains of several other boats, and all looking out on the RSPB’s smallest reserve opposite Shoreham town centre.

Then Houseboat Dodge is accessed over the roof of the Clive, a former WW2 Motor Torpedo Boat undergoing conversion to become substantive workshop facility and offers seating and BBQ area on it's rear deck. The accommodation comprises two double beds and a bench viewing seat in the front bedroom that may be converted to a single. Entrance into the main cabin, the bed when not in use is easily chain winched into the roof space underneath is the dining area and forward of that, general seating and stove. Galley kitchen with L:PG cooker, fridge and usual facilities. Bath, shower and loo to port and bedroom forward. Instant hot water of LPG boiler. Main heating is by fan assisted storage heater.
My building style incorporates a substantive amount of reused materials and the Dodge boasts remnants of four redundant boats and a fire engine carcus from which it derives it's name.

Copious 5 star reviews available on the Airbnb site.

Open access to all of the Dodge. I or my nominated representative will be happy to show you whichever of the other boats on my site that are safe and presentable.

Drop down double bed, ‘boat within a boat within a boat within a boat’ in main cabin, wood fired stove runs 3 radiators. Basic galley kitchen with small oven and 2 ring burner. Shower, bath and sea loo. Front cabin has a double bed and an optional single which takes the place of the bench seat with estuary views.

The Dodge is one of some 50 houseboats on the south bank of the River Adur. The moorings are on tidal mudflats and during spring tides we are inundated twice daily whilst on the neap cycle, we often get no tidal influx. An eclectic mix of boats, many of historic interest and as pleasant a bunch of neighbours as I could wish for. A thriving Farmers Market on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month and a fortnightly massive car boot fair in the warmer months about 5 minute walk. The Ropetaclke Arts centre is within sight of our houseboats and boasts a variety of good quality entertainment. Excellent fish restaurant on Shoreham Beach. (8 mins)

The Area

Shoreham has its own special atmosphere. I love the beautiful historic church, cosy tea shops, a farmers market every other Saturday, walks along the beach, or along the River Adur and South Downs.

The 700 bus runs along the A259 coast road., It takes about 25 minutes for Brighton to the east and Worthing to the west and daytime service every 10 minutes. The train station is a slightly longer walk

The closest parking is reserved for residents although this is bordered by a Pay and Display £3 daily. Street parking is free.

About the marina/waterway

Beautiful moorings on estuarine mudflats, some 45 houseboats in total including much of historic interest. Being freehold moorings, it is somewhat unique community and has given us unparalleled freedom to develop our boats to our individual tastes. The Beach is a short walk (300m), there is a well equipped playground close to the Dodge and Shoreham town (a pleasant 0.5km stroll)has plenty to offer.
