Stay on a boat in London, United Kingdom

Welcome aboard Friluftsliv!

Friluftsliv means 'a lifestyle dedicated to nature; open-air living'. This is precisely what life onboard can offer you: nature, relaxation, and the perfect alternative escape away on the waterways.
Boat holidays offer you a unique perspective of some great locations, both rural & urban. Whether you are seeking fun-filled days in the city or relaxation in the countryside, this will provide you with the perfect solution.

A Home Away From Home.
Friluftsliv is 70ft of (narrow, yet) open plan living, which can accommodate 4 people comfortably (and, possibly, squeeze in an additional small person if you are a family of five).
Life on a boat is a uniquely different experience to a home on terra firma, yet Friluftsliv contains all of the essentials needed to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
I have put together a diagram of the full layout which can be found on the photo section.

The interior has a fully equipped kitchen, fridge, gas cooker, etc. 12V lights and USB ports for charging devices, the power for which is generated from battery and solar panelled energy. It also has a 24V inverter to allow you to use laptops, etc.
The living area has an extendable dining table to allow you to maximise the space on board; a comfortable sofa, and a day bed that pulls out into a double bed which has plenty of drawer space and storage underneath.
In the bathroom, there is a powerful walk-in shower, a flushable toilet and plenty of engine-generated hot water.
At the end of the boat is the double bedroom that has built-in wardrobes and under-bed storage, perfect for stowing away your personal effects.

Green spaces; great views of London
Perivale is a hidden gem along the Paddington arm of the canal.
Firstly, it's incredibly well-connected: a 5-minute walk to the Central Line station and a stone's throw away from regular buses to places such as trendy Ealing Broadway and Brentford Lock (and beautiful walks along the Thames).

The Area

The beauty of being on a boat is the freedom to choose where you want to stay.
The boat will be available to book in 5 key locations: West Drayton, Northolt, Greenford, Perivale, and Alperton. These areas have been carefully chosen for convenient access to the towpath as well as local public transport. Each place is also closely linked with the TFL network. This means London is less than 35 minutes away should you wish to spend a day sightseeing and experiencing all of the amazing things our capital city has to offer.

What's special about this boat

What is special about this area is that the boat is nestled amongst the wooded area of Horsenden Hill which contains playgrounds, an urban farm and nature walks that are perfect for all the family (look out for the Gruffalo and the resident woodpecker!)
At the top of Horsenden Hill, you are treated to panoramic views of London-a perfect spot for a picnic.
For budding golfers, there is also a golf course that provides day membership. This is a great way to enjoy the views Horsenden has to offer as you strive for a hole in one.
A short walk away, you will find a great range of shops, including Tesco which is in an amazing art deco building.
The walks along the towpath are really pleasant and, if you are bringing your bicycles, you could even visit the family-run Hanwell Zoo situated in the charming 'Bunny Park'.

About the marina/waterway

The Grand Union Canal links London to Birmingham, passing through rolling countryside, industrial towns and peaceful villages. It is our longest canal, the ‘trunk route’ of the system, and helps thousands of people to live healthier, happier lives. The best part of being on a narrowboat is the freedom to choose where you want to stay. We aim to promote environmentally conscious tourism and, in line with the Government's Low Emissions Zones, would like to encourage you to use public transport as much as possible, even when traveling to the narrowboat. With that in mind, the boat will be located in 5 locations that have been carefully chosen for convenient access to and from the towpath, close by to a range of public transport facilities and so you are no more than 35 mins from central London.
