Stay on a boat in London, United Kingdom

A wonderful boat with loads of character. Traditional vintage features add a cosy feel. Fully equipped kitchen with oven and fridge. Hot showers although bear in mind you have to run the engine to heat the water, for around 30 minutes each morning / evening. Located in Hackney / Bethnal Green right outside Victoria Park. The area is full of great pubs, independent cafes and a farmers market every Sunday. Please be aware that it’s important to run the engine for at least 30 minutes to an hour each day to charge the batteries and to heat the water. I will meet you to show you the ropes! I live on the boat and rent it out whilst I’m away. So another thing to bear in mind is that my belongings are on the boat and I ask you to be respectful and pay for any damages. I can leave a big drawer empty for clothes if needed but remember this is a boat, not your usual hotel / air BnB room... space is compact (but fabulous) so pack lightly! No party’s or other guests please.

The double bed is located at the back of the boat, separated from the main gully by the bathroom / walls. The living area has a sofa and desk. The kitchen has an oven, sink and fridge. There is outside seating at the front of the boat.

Fridge, kitchen utensils, oven, shower, compost toilet (this will be emptied before you arrive, the liquids container needs to be emptied every few days, the solids will not need emptying during your stay if under 3-4 weeks. It looks and feels like a normal toilet), cosy living area, 12 volt charging station for phones (USB or ciggerette lighter type attachments) bear in mind you can charge laptops at local cafe. No WiFi but you should be able to hotspot from your phone.

A selection of decent pubs, supermarkets, shops, restaurants, cafes, beautiful park, canal walks, Hackney Marshes a short walk away, tube (central line) and loads of buses.

The Area

East London is a creative part of town. Loads of galleries, independent stores / restaurants, markets, park right on the doorstep. It’s a relaxed vibe yet super close to central London and Stratford Westfield.

What's special about this boat

Sitting on the roof, watching the sun set whilst coots maintain their nests. Go for an organic glass of wine at the local wine bar, shop for locally grown and handmade produce at the local farmers market every Sunday. Spend the afternoons lazing in the park or playing board games over a pint at The Camel Pub. Live music at The Palm Trees every Friday and Saturday night, an East London gem. The towpath does get quite busy during the summer months however noise generally subsides after dark. It’s not in the middle of nowhere. If you are a late riser, particularly over the weekend I would advise ear plugs. Generally speaking it’s a relaxing getaway but you will be in the middle of a popular area as apposed to in the middle of nowhere.

Kelly was a gracious host and her boat, was such a pleasure. I wanted to try out life on a canal boat and the experience was beyond all that I had imagined it would be! So much fun to take on the daily duties of upkeep and was no difficulty at all as the vessel was clean and tidy and as shipshape as could be. I would highly recommend a stay on Daisy to veteran houseboaters and curious newbies alike. Thanks Kelly!
