Stay on a boat in Poole, United Kingdom

Ida is a Scandinavian Baltic Trader with a fascinating history. Since our family sailed her back from the Baltic to Britain, her sweeping sheer and traditional sail plan have been cutting a fine figure on the south coast of England. She has been lovingly built and skillfully maintained and enjoyed by one family since her original commission. Since her arrival in England we are now inviting guests to come and enjoy a truly unique experience. She is located on a swinging mooring, directly offshore of Browsea Island in Poole Harbour. The island hosts an exquisite variety of birds and wildlife. We offer a water taxi to and from the mooring. She is a roomy and comfortable live-aboard and a great cruiser. She sleeps 6 in comfort.

Onsite

Brownsea Island-https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/brownsea-island
Managed by the National Trust, so bring your membership for free entry. The perfect day’s adventure, this island wildlife sanctuary is easy to get to but feels like another world from the moment you step ashore.

The island sits in the middle of Poole Harbour, with dramatic views to the Purbeck Hills. Thriving natural habitats, including woodland, heathland and a lagoon, have created havens for wildlife, such as the red squirrel and a huge variety of birds.

The island is rich in history too, which is revealed in our Visitor Centre. There are the remains of daffodil farming, pottery works and the village of Maryland to explore, or head to the Outdoor Centre to find out more about the birthplace of the Scouting and Guiding movement.

Families can make the most of their day too, with activities including tree-climbing trails, Tracker Packs and a natural play area. We also host special events, walks, talks, Brownsea Open-Air Theatre and daily introductory walks and buggy tours for less-mobile visitors (booking essential).

The Area

Poole Harbour is the second largest natural harbour in the world, and our mooring gives guests a unique vision of the bustle of a busy harbour, and the unique ecology of islands and tidal channels, migrating birds and wildlife. It is a harbour of two halves, with a busy Quay with marinas, restaurants and bars on its eastern shores, and the intricate inlets and islands of Purbeck on the west. Brownsea Island sits squarely in the middle at the harbour mouth, allowing guest access to all that this amazing harbour has to offer.
