Stay on a boat in Lymington, United Kingdom.

Running Bear is a classic 42ft Grand Banks launched in 1972. She has a two double-berth cabin configuration. It is also possible to sleep in the saloon area, but no bedding is supplied for this.

Beds on Board Comment: "Class, not Fibreglass! She's all wood and that gives her a different shape and even a different smell to the mass produced fibreglass boats we're all used to. Every component is solid, substantial and a one off. Her Trawler Yacht style gives her the most fantastic large saloon area from which to watch the world go by and the cabins, particularly the glorious aft cabin, are very spacious. She's been modernised in all the areas that matter (upholstery, carpets, bedding etc) but there are hidden untouched gems everywhere. We love the "little ship" feel, the huge steering wheel, the ancient but still functioning radios and the early electronic instruments. Running Bear reminds us of "Mimosa", the boat with the starring role in last year's Dunkirk movie"

For health and safety reasons we regret that we cannot accept children or dogs on board.

** Book a second weeknight at just £100 per night when you have booked one night at £130 (applies Mon-Thur) - just send me a message to take advantage of this offer **

Grand Bank classic 42' cruiser, wooden construction.

Two sleeping berth cabins – fore and aft.
Flying bridge and inner bridge/day saloon.

She has very comfortable accommodation for up to 6 people. In the master cabin, the sleeping configuartion is a standard double-bunk. The second cabin has two single bunks. Both cabins have ensuite toilets and showers.

The saloon is a very atmospheric wood panelled entertainment area and galley with fridge, microwave and TV – all running on a 24 volt electric system. It can be used for sleeping but no bedding is provided for this purpose.

Up top, there is a flying bridge with table and chairs to take your evening G&T or maybe a nice cool glass of bubbly whilst enjoying the setting sun and taking in the stunning views.

Lymington Yacht Haven has a bar, restaurant, showers, parking and the main town centre is a brief stroll away.

    A birthday treat

    Oct. 10, 2017

My husband and I stayed on Running bear for two nights for his birthday, it is a beautiful wooden boat which was cosy, warm, clean & lovingly restored so the space is perfect. There is a space upstairs to enjoy bubbles outdoors, heating if needed, very posh toilets/showers in the marina and a bar/restaurant if needed. Thank you Andy, Jan & Sheila- we’ll be back with the kids!!

    Great experience

Beautifully presented boat in a fantastic location. Great facilities. Lovely people to deal with. We'll be booking again

Running Bear - a beautiful bateau!

    July 29, 2017

Running Bear hosted us for a great weekend! Hosted at such a beautiful marina, with incredible facilities just s stones throw from the boat, it's in a prime location. Boat moves minimally, and gently rocks you to sleep at night, as you rise and fall up to 3 metres! The flying bridge was perfect for a G&T, and watching the sunset over the marina. All in all a perfect weekend!

We had friends with a boat in Lymington Yacht Haven who were coming down for the weekend....very last minute, we decided to have a look at the options on BOB...decided to go for Running Bear, as she had heaps of character, quite unlike all the other boats. Whilst we will try those at some stage, I wanted to have an experience with my two children William (12) and Amelia (8) that they would not forget....a real wooden boat. we booked it at around 11am, and Jan had called us back within the hour....brilliant response time, and great communication. We arrived as arranged and met Andy the other co-owner, who I can only describe as an absolute gentleman. He explained everything about the boat, and made us feel so welcome to have the privilege of staying aboard her. The welcome pack full of goodies and a bottle of wine, were just the icing on the cake.....a touch of class. we will be back many times, I am sure of that.... I cannot recommend the boat and the way we were treated more highly.... Thank you Andy and Jan, you made memories for the kids, and me come to that.

    A great boat.

Everything about this boat is fantastic. The owners are really amenable and very easy to contact. The greeting on arrival was perfect and the boat was beautifully kitted out with everything you could possibly want. There is lots of space on the boat and it's very comfortable. The location of the boat is ideal too both in the marina and its vicinity to Lymington. The welcome basket is a nice touch too. We will definitely return.

    One night stand

    Sept. 12, 2017

She's a few years older than me and yet was simply magnificent! Introduced to four of us by a very friendly and hospitable Andy on our late arrival just before dusk, we enjoyed ourselves till the early hours. She is so full of character, inviting and cosy inside, we'll definitely consider another stay. Thank you Andy, for sharing Running Bear with us!

Perfect week aboard this beautiful boat

    Sept. 11, 2018

We had the most wonderful week staying on Running Bear. Thanks to Shiela the boat was extremely clean and great to have some provisions to get us started too. We had mixed weather during our stay. Warm sunny days allowed us to relax on the deck with the feel of the warm wood on our feet and the beautiful views of the marina and the Solent around us. Evenings spent star gazing listening to the wind in the masts. The beds were extremely comfortable giving us some much needed restful sleep. Facilities at the marina are excellent and the Haven bar and restaurant served good food in a relaxed and friendly environment, not forgetting those ever present views. The boat was warm on chilly nights and the spacious saloon comfortable and well equipped. We hired bikes from the marina and kayaks from Lymington quay to explore the coastline Our hosts Andy and Jan were amazing from the very first text when making our booking, to the time we had to leave they made sure we were having the best time. We made some very special memories that week thank you. Karen and Chris and family

Fantastic mini-moon aboard the Running Bear

    June 20, 2018

We had a wonderful stay aboard the Running Bear. The boat is beautiful and spacious and very comfortable, and even better than the photos. Shame we couldn’t have stayed longer. Thanks to the co-owner Andy for checking us in.

    We loved Running Bear

    July 9, 2018

Being able to wander down the pontoon and stay on Running Bear last Saturday evening was bliss. As was the bottle of Proseco we enjoyed up on deck on such a lovely evening, thanks Running Bear.

    July 16, 2018

We had a truly lovely stay on board Running Bear. Not only was it extremely spacious, clean and beautifully maintained with comfortable beds, but we were left with a fridge full of water, a bottle of prosecco and a bowl of fruit! Also it was conveniently moored at the top end of the marina, close to the shower blocks. All this and the beautiful weather, we couldn't have had a more enjoyable stay. We will definitely be returning!

    Lovely boat and location

    Aug. 9, 2018

Lovely 2 night stay. Andy was very welcoming and the boat very comfy even in the heat for the three of us.

    Lovely night

    Aug. 25, 2018

We absolutely loved the running bear and so did our children. It was surprisingly big and the marina had nice facilities. Andy and Jan were both really helpful and friendly. Were hoping to stay again this week but sadly can’t due to my husband’s work commitments. Would def recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed a couple of nights on Running Bear this April with friends. Plenty of space and character and would recommend it if you want a convenient base from which you can explore Lymington and the New Forest.

    Running Bear Weekend

    May 12, 2019

A lovely boat with some considerable character obviously well cared for. The accommodation was roomy and very comfortable. Although the first night was cold we slept well nicely tucked up under warm duvets and blankets. It was nice to see the welcoming bowl of fruit and the necessities like tea, coffee, milk and cereals all provided to us. The proximity of the fine marina facilities makes the stay all the better as we did not have to use the boat showers etc. We would certainly recommend Running Bear to anyone who wants a stay near the New Forest. It would be exciting for example for a family with two children who would find staying on a boat a novelty. For us it was a convenient accommodation near to our sailing boat which did not have enough beds for our weekend crew.

    Loved it!

    April 22, 2019

It was the best bank holiday weekend, ever! I guess the unusually hot Easter weather played a part, but we'd have still loved staying on Running Bear even in bad weather. So spacious, well equipped and comfortable. We had everything we could have wanted, and more. Add to that the fantastic location and great base for exploring Lymington and surrounds. We've already recommended you to friends and family, and we'll be back. Already missing sitting on deck sipping G&T! Thank you, Andy and Jan. It was such a treat! xx
