Stay on a boat in Cowes, United Kingdom
Casuella is a classic 28 ft Peter Duck built in 1964 and
designed by Laurent Giles. The Peter Duck class evolved from an original yacht ( called "Peter Duck" ) which was built for Arthur Ransome, the author of 'Swallows & Amazons !
From 27th March 2020 Casuella is available for beds on board guests to stay on aboard after the Winter and into the Spring and Summer !
Casuella 's cockpit is large enough to seat 6 people . Below decks (down three steps with handrails) and on entering the saloon there is 6ft 4" of head room. The chart table is on the port hand side with the galley on the starboard side. The Galley has a sink with a foot operated pump with storage space behind. The open plan saloon is cosy but roomy with a central table for dining. The seating either side of the table can double up as two single bunks suitable for children from around 5 years to 14 years old . There is storage space behind the seats for the bar, books, CD player etc. Further forward the Heads with pump action loo is on the starboard side with a storage locker / room on the port side for hanging clothes. Forward of this is the main cabin which can be used as a large double or two single bunks. The cleverly designed doors fold three ways to give privacy as required in the heads, the cabin or the saloon. The interior is in keeping with the age of the yacht with varnished wood giving much character.
There is a kettle on board for guests to make themselves a continental style breakfast. If you choose to be on a walk ashore mooring and are connected to the electric supply there is also a toaster and a microwave oven. Tea, coffee ,fresh milk and bread are included. One double duvet, two sleeping bags , pillows, sheets and towels and extra blankets are provided .Also a radio/ CD player for guests to use.
Near the Folly Inn on the Medina River is our usual mooring. Both the walk ashore pontoon berth and the river pontoon mooring are in a beautiful and tranquil locations with abundant wildlife all around . Ashore you have use of the car park and loo/ shower facilities. The nearby Folly Inn does a great breakfast , lunch , evening meal and has its own water taxi service (07784400046)for transport to the centre of West or East Cowes .
If you are staying on Casuella on the off shore pontoon you use the water taxi to get to get on board and ashore again .
There are also other water taxi services around including Sally taxi on 07831331717.
Having arranged a time to meet , in the car park, we can assist with luggage to the walkway, which runs from the foreshore (approx 60 metres long )on to the pontoon. There is usually a trolly to help load up.
If you choose to be on the off shore pontoon you use the water taxi to get out to Casuella .
Once on board we explain and show how "things" work on Casuella .
If requested we can move Casuella down river and into Shepards Wharf Marina ,West Cowes. There Casuella would be along side a pontoon and ashore, guests would have the use of the well-equipped showers and facilities. There is a small additional charge for mooring at Shepards ( or any other Marina in Cowes ) which can be quoted on request. From Shepards It is a short walk into the Town centre where there are many restaurants to choose from . You can browse the town's famous shopping street and visit the boutique shops and galleries or stop at a street cafe for refreshment before strolling along the seafront and seeing boats of every shape and size. In short there is plenty to do & see !
We do request that bookings are made at least three days in advance to give us time to prepare Casuella and if required move her to a different location . Thank you .
Cowes has been a magnet for sailors for many years and famous for hosting the world's most prestigious sailing events .
However, the town is also a gateway to an Island that is breathtaking in its beauty and has a fascinating history. Osbourne House and Carisbrooke Castle are just two of the places of great historic interest .
Within the 147 square miles the IOW has 500 miles of coastal path, bridleways and cycle tracks ideal for exploring the countryside .Over half the Island is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural beauty . There are many beaches and plenty of opportunity to take part in a great variety of watersports from kayaking to jet ski-ing .
What's special about this boat
Casuella is a beamy comfortable wooden yacht with plenty of character .Considering her length (28 ft) Her well designed interior makes her easy to live aboard . The cock pit seats six or more and this makes a great platform for entertaining in any setting ! Although ideally suited for accommodating two adults Casuella does have the two seats alongside the central table where children can sleep in sleeping bags . So,although listed as accommodating two Casuella , although cosy, can accommodate a family of four .

Cowes Week and Casuella
We have just returned from a wonderful weekend on the little sail boat Casuella moored in Folly Marina. Although the accommodation being a sail boat was a little cramped we slept well and met many friendly and and interesting people (a well known authoress, a contestant from Acapella in the fastnet race, a legal family with an endless store of stories and great sense of humour and a couple just having bought their first boat). Our hosts Caroline and Patrick could not have taken more trouble to make our stay enjoyable from advice on the Folly water bus to Cowes town quay to croissants for breakfast and an honesty bar on board. Saturday night was a beautiful evening for sitting on deck with a drink after an excursion to Cowes on the Folly water bus. Thank you Caroline and Patrick.
3 night stay in Cowes
Lovely old Ketch and a very enjoyable stay on board. The basics were all supplied (towels, tea/coffee, light breakfast stuff, etc,) and the handover was easy. If you would like a cosy, lived-in, rustic stay in a marina then this is ideal.... and she could be considered a 4 berth.
