    Monaco
The World famous principality of Monaco offers a great balance of historical and modern attractions. There are various museums and palaces to visit as well as shopping malls and casinos.
Monaco-Ville is still a medieval village at heart and an astonishingly picturesque site. It is made up almost entirely of pedestrian streets and passageways and previous century houses still remain. There are a number of restaurants and souvenir shops tourists can eat and shop at. You can also visit the Prince's Palace, the Cathedral, the City Hall, and the Saint Martin Gardens. The close by Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium is a world-renowned attraction. The Jardin Exotique (Exotic Gardens) is one of the many gardens Monaco has to offer containing several thousand rare plants from around the world. Not forgetting the Monaco Opera House, Grimaldi Forum and Prince's car collection.
In Monte Carlo try your luck in the Grand Casino and gamble alongside the world's richest and often most famous.

    The Area

While staying in Monaco, you can take a full or half-day-journey to surrounding areas like the world famous French Riviera and Italy.
The famous coastline of the French Riviera is a long succession of elegant resorts with 'mega' yacht filled harbours at Monaco, Antibes, Cannes, St Tropez, and many more. With the pre-Alps tumbling down to meet the sea, the coastal and inland scenery is quite amazing; from cornice hemmed coastlines, through gorges, to ski resorts above. Ancient Medieval walled villages perched on rocky outcrops are scattered all around the region and rise above the sea, where they were built for safety in the Middle Ages. Some famous, like St Paul de Vence, others yet to be discovered by the tourists.
Cultural events take place all year along the Riviera and many famous people have lived in the area such as Cézanne, Chagall, Picasso, there are Picasso museums at Antibes and Cagnes sur Mer, also Renoir, whose museum is just inland at Cagnes old town. Matisse designed and decorated the chapel at Vence. You can visit glass blowing at the factories at Biot, pottery in Vallauris and the famous perfume industry at Grasse.
Nightlife along the Côte d'Azur is second to none in lively resorts such as Nice, Antibes and Cannes; there are casinos at most large towns and restaurants at every street corner to match people's tastes and budget. An abundance of seafood, olive oil, garlic and aromatic wild herbs are the key ingredients in this region.

Just across the border in Italy it’s easy to get to Ventigimilia, Genoa or the surrounding area by train, where you will be transported immediately into a different culture, but in a similar landscape of hilltop villages set in the mountains behind the seaside towns.
