Stay on a boat in Little Venice, United Kingdom
Stay on this beautiful romantic narrow boat in the heart of London and see London from a different perspective.
Private moorig in little Venice
Velvet Morning is a 57 foot canal boat built over 100 years ago and is full of character and history. She can sleep 4 adults and 1 child.
The accommodation is beautifully designed and has recently been refurbished throughout. It comprises a king size master bed, and a bunk for a single child. The seating area coverts in to a double bed so a maximum of 4 people can stay on board. Velvet is perfect for a luxurious romantic getaway for two, or would be great for a family looking for an alternative, fun holiday.
The living area comprises a lounge seating area, and dining for three. There is a hand crafted kitchen, with a gas oven and hob, a good size fridge with freezer compartment, a sink and draining board, cupboards and drawers housing all the usual kitchen equipment.
The bathroom has a beautiful claw foot slipper bath with a hand shower.
The WC is a cassette toilet which would usually have to be emptied by the host every 3- 5 days. Water is held in a tank on-board and needs topping up every few days (depending on your usage). This will be done by your host.
In the winter months heating is by the solid fuel stove which burns a combination of smokeless coal and logs which are provided. The stove can be controlled and kept going 24 hours but you need to allow for this in your daily, loading stove before going out and a little attention on your return. It keeps the boat warm and cosy. An eco fan assists circulation
Living on board is not quite like a conventional house and needs an understanding and patience- it may therefore not be for everyone. Power is supplied from batteries which means appliances that we take for granted such a hair dryers can run the power supply down very quickly.
Essentially, power isn't on tap as we're used to in our homes.
If the power runs down the engine will need to be started to charge up the batteries. If there are any problems the host will be on call to assist.
Local restaurants and bars. Close to tube.
Follow the river (on foot) through Regent's Park past the zoo to Camden. Or East to Victoria Park and Limehouse Basin
If you want to learn the ropes, or find out about the Thames, do make time for the Canal Museum.
What's special about this boat
There's a lovely cottage feel soon as you step on board and the prospect of mornings on the river, a wood burner at night and climbing into the cabin at night strikes me as pure bliss.

We have chosen to stay on a boat to have a different experience, It certainly was... Lovely accommodation, clean and well furnished... We must say it might not be adequate for extreme winter conditions. The heating was not sufficient for sub-cero outside temperatures in London the night we arrived. Even though the boat was preheated, the radiators did not continue heating through the night which made the inside temperature of the boat drop too much. We were really, really cold. The second day, as outside temperature was not so gruelling we copped a bit better... However I believe this would make a lovely stay in summer, it was a great location with plenty to do in the area, lots of information was provided by the host. Despite the cold we will be Back! Thank you Sam,
We had a lovely stay on the above long boat ~ just to say Sam was delightful and very helpful getting us settled and sorted on board ~ only thing we would say is one should be pretty fit and capable of climbing in/out of bed/ bath and looking after a solid fuel stove - We being boaties coped but others older and not fit may not !!! Great location and The Summer House restaurant opposite was fab!
What a fantastic way to spend a summer's evening, we had the most amazing stay on Velvet Morning in Little Venice. Close to so many nice restaurants, and of course gorgeous walks along the canal. Safe and beautiful, you won't regret booking a few nights away in London's Venice!
4 of us booked 3 nights on board. Sam sent us clear directions and met us to take us to the boat. She gave us clear information about what we needed to do and know and provided some basic food stuff for our use. Although we had a small.issue with the gas, Sam was available by text to help us or would have come round if we needed her.
My Daughter bought us a stay on Velvet Morning for my Xmas present..
Wow.... we had a fantastic one nights stay. The weather was fab and the boat is beautiful. We met a representative of the owner at a local pub just up the road which is a very short walk from the tube station Warwick Avenue he was a lovely man who gave us a tour of the boat and explained everything. He also told us interesting facts on the area and where to visit. There was some items for our breakfast provided which was a lovely surprise. The boat was clean and well equipped there was no tv but who needs one when on such a great boat with so much to see and do. There was a speaker system that Bluetooths to your phone so we could play soothing music. Just over the canal there was a very nice pub where we had a great evening meal outside under patio heaters. It was so quiet at night we slept really well, you cannot believe you are in the heart of London. We did a barge trip to Camden with a guide one way which was great and very informative. We walked back with a lovely Australian couple we met on the boat. Would we stay again.. you bet it’s a relaxing stay on a beautiful boat in a great location with plenty to see and do.
Wonderful stay; highly recommend! The boat is stunning and Sam was so thoughtful to leave bread, eggs, milk, butter and jam for breakfasts. Am recommending to all my friends! x
Just ended our two night stay on velvet, Sam is a great host and the house boat is amazing. It's a very special place to stay, great location too
A little bit of paradise in the city
We recently stayed aboard Velvet Morning in the Paddington Basin. The handover was seamless and thorough. Although the interior in places was a bit tired, every detail was thought of; comfy bed, crisp clean linen, a basic larder, all set for a wonderful weekend. A peaceful retreat close to great restaurants and amenities...moored opposite M & S (what more could one want?!).
we had a wonderful weekend on Velvet Morning. It is a beautiful boat in a beautiful location with a lovely pub and restaurants very nearby
A great experience. Morning Velvet delivered.
Accommodstion in London is very expensive, particularly if there are 3 of you. We were travelling with our 9yr old son and staying in Little Venice with him on MV was something he and we will never forget. Not only does it encourage you to explore the canal environment but you get a full kitchen and quiet location as well. It's different and may not be for everyone but we loved it. We also really enjoyed the birdlife and general canal activity.
