    Overview

Stay on a boat in Little Venice, United Kingdom.

Stay on this beautiful romantic narrow boat in the heart of London and see London from a different perspective

Velvet Morning is a 57 foot canal boat built over 100 years ago and is full of character and history. She can sleep 4 adults and 1 child.

    Layout

The accommodation is beautifully designed and has recently been refurbished throughout. It comprises a king size master bed, and a bunk for a single child. The seating area coverts in to a double bed so a maximum of 4 people can stay on board. Velvet is perfect for a luxurious romantic getaway for two, or would be great for a family looking for an alternative, fun holiday.

    Onboard

The living area comprises a lounge seating area, and dining for three. There is a hand crafted kitchen, with a gas oven and hob, a good size fridge with freezer compartment, a sink and draining board, cupboards and drawers housing all the usual kitchen equipment.
The bathroom has a beautiful claw foot slipper bath with a hand shower.

The WC is a cassette toilet which would usually have to be emptied by the host every 3- 5 days. Water is held in a tank on-board and needs topping up every few days (depending on your usage). This will be done by your host.

In the winter months heating is by the solid fuel stove which burns a combination of smokeless coal and logs which are provided. The stove can be controlled and kept going 24 hours but you need to allow for this in your daily, loading stove before going out and a little attention on your return. It keeps the boat warm and cosy. An eco fan assists circulation

Living on board is not quite like a conventional house and needs an understanding and patience- it may therefore not be for everyone. Power is supplied from batteries which means appliances that we take for granted such a hair dryers can run the power supply down very quickly.

Essentially, power isn't on tap as we're used to in our homes.
If the power runs down the engine will need to be started to charge up the batteries. If there are any problems the host will be on call to assist.

    The Area

    Explore...

Follow the river (on foot) through Regent's Park past the zoo to Camden. Or East to Victoria Park and Limehouse Basin

If you want to learn the ropes, or find out about the Thames, do make time for the Canal Museum.

    What's special about this boat

There's a lovely cottage feel soon as you step on board and the prospect of mornings on the river, a wood burner at night and climbing into the cabin at night strikes me as pure bliss.

    Different experience!

    Feb. 4, 2017

We have chosen to stay on a boat to have a different experience, It certainly was... Lovely accommodation, clean and well furnished... We must say it might not be adequate for extreme winter conditions. The heating was not sufficient for sub-cero outside temperatures in London the night we arrived. Even though the boat was preheated, the radiators did not continue heating through the night which made the inside temperature of the boat drop too much. We were really, really cold. The second day, as outside temperature was not so gruelling we copped a bit better... However I believe this would make a lovely stay in summer, it was a great location with plenty to do in the area, lots of information was provided by the host. Despite the cold we will be Back! Thank you Sam,

We had a lovely stay on the above long boat ~ just to say Sam was delightful and very helpful getting us settled and sorted on board ~ only thing we would say is one should be pretty fit and capable of climbing in/out of bed/ bath and looking after a solid fuel stove - We being boaties coped but others older and not fit may not !!! Great location and The Summer House restaurant opposite was fab!

    Something fabulous!

What a fantastic way to spend a summer's evening, we had the most amazing stay on Velvet Morning in Little Venice. Close to so many nice restaurants, and of course gorgeous walks along the canal. Safe and beautiful, you won't regret booking a few nights away in London's Venice!

4 of us booked 3 nights on board. Sam sent us clear directions and met us to take us to the boat. She gave us clear information about what we needed to do and know and provided some basic food stuff for our use. Although we had a small.issue with the gas, Sam was available by text to help us or would have come round if we needed her.
