Stay on a boat in Portsmouth, United Kingdom

Experience something different this summer and book to stay alongside on board an iconic Challenger yacht. The boat is owned by Tall Ships Youth Trust – a charity in Portsmouth that takes young people out to sea on life changing voyages. By booking a stay on a Challenger, you will help to fund the Tall Ships Youth Trust’s highly effective Youth Work, which offers an adrenaline-charged catalyst for change in those aged 12 to 25. This isn’t just a weekend away, it is a city break with a difference.

The Challengers each provide a safe, cosy environment to relax in. They are comfortable and well equipped below deck, so are the perfect space for a few nights away without the kids or a family getaway. At this time, no more than two households are allowed on board at one time. If you would like to stay outside of the listed time frames, please contact

The yacht has an airy seating area (otherwise known as the saloon), a well kitted out kitchen (known as the galley - although please note that the kitchen facilities are not for use by guests), toilets (heads), storage areas and an open plan sleeping area with traditional snug bunks (pipe cots), for that authentic sailing experience. Please note: You will need to bring your own sleeping bags/bedding and pillows. Modern shore-side facilities (including showers) can be found in Gunwharf Quays. Please note: the boat will be fully sanitized for your safety with a fogger before your stay on board. You will also be asked to read and sign our Voyage Crew Information form.

The boat is located in the heart of Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth. With over 90 famous brands, 30 bars and restaurants, there is something to keep the whole family entertained!

The Area

There’s plenty to do in the area. Just a stone’s throw away you'll find Southsea beach, world leading museums such as the Mary Rose and the Victory. There's a wealth of culture and history to make this the ultimate staycation!

What's special about this boat

Built in 2000 for Chay Blythe’s BT Global Challenge, each of our 72ft yachts have raced around the world twice - backwards (against the prevailing winds and tides). This is your chance to get a taste of what it was like to sail around the globe on one of these historic boats without having to leave the comfort of the harbour. Complete with original pipe cots, saloon table and galley, they have hardly changed since they first set sail 20 years ago.
